2nd Annual Drukpa Council

Respect and Appreciate with Love and Understanding

April 6-15, 2010 at Druk Amitabha Mountain, Kathmandu, Nepal

The theme of the 2nd ADC was "Respect and Appreciate with Love and Understanding". Based on this, His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa said: “The world cannot be in peace and harmony if we don't have the skills to respect and appreciate with love and understanding. Similarly, the complex relationships between beings and their communities and between living beings and Nature cannot remain in peace and harmony without these skills.”

Along the theme of “Respect and Appreciate with Love and Understanding”, the 2nd ADC was held on April 6-15, 2010. The assembly of all the Drukpa masters, disciples and friends made this event unexceptionally successful. We started the 2nd ADC by conducting the Great Compassion (Avalokiteshvara) Drubpa by 800 nuns of the Drukpa Lineage for dispelling negativity and encouraging positive results. The nuns had demonstrated the traditional rituals of mask dancing and installed the protection deities of five directions, which were historically performed by the monks. During the 2nd ADC, there were about 20 teaching, discussion and praying sessions. The highlight was the inauguration of the 80-feet bronze monument with 30-feet statue of Buddha Amitabha and a 35-feet statue of the Omiscient one, Drukpa Pema Karpo. Another highlight was the grand enthronement of Kyabje Sengdrak Rinpoche and the display of the self-arising bone relic of the 1st Gyalwang Drukpa (1161-1211), which contains the power of sight liberation, with great merit and encouragement to spiritual followers. As a continuation of the 1st ADC, our “Live to Love” team continued to provide basic necessities to the villagers around Druk Amitabha Mountain. It was our honour to have invited numerous international artists to perform at our “Live to Love” mini concert held in the Naro Assembly Hall.

The 2nd ADC was concluded with the circumambulations at the Swayambhunath stupa, for purification of negative karma and accumulation of merits, with His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa and our masters.
